On May 24, 2010, the Senate passed the Telework Enhancement Act (S. 707) sponsored by Sens. Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii) and George Voinovich (R-Ohio). Transcription work from home jobs involve listening to audio files and typing out what you hear. While some types of transcription (such as medical) require training, it is possible to break into general transcription with little to no past experience. Before you start digging through the companies below, you may want to read this post about what general transcription involves and this post about the equipment transcribers use.
A work from home job can be any position that does not require you to be in an office. There a wide range of work from home jobs. Some companies offer opportunities for employees in traditional roles to work remotely for all or some of their workweek. These jobs often use technology for meetings, assignments, and collaboration. This practice is called telecommuting. Other work from home opportunities may include jobs such as customer service representatives for which companies will hire remote workers, or part-time virtual assistants to manage work which does not require a physical presence in the office.
While most of these companies advertise that you can earn upwards of $18 or so an hour, the reality is that you're not going to make that much once you figure in your gas expenses and wear and tear on your car. Jobs in the Online Education Industry: Education-focused companies like Kaplan, Edmentum, and K12 offer remote education services ranging from tutoring and teaching elementary-level children up to SAT prep for high schoolers getting ready for college. Speaking of college, online for-profit and non-profit colleges are bringing virtual campuses to students all over the globe. College professors may be seeing a drop in live, face-to-face teaching jobs on college campuses, but they will find there is an increase in online virtual teaching positions. In addition to online tutors, teachers, and adjunct professors, other part-time work-from-home jobs in the education industry include teaching assistants, foreign language teachers, and education coordinators.

Their training is done online and is self-paced. You could finish the program in 4 months but 6 months is probably more realistic. They do however give you up to a year to get it all done. Their program is approved by the American Health Information Management Association and the American Academy of Professional Coders. They work specifically with a company called IOD inc. that hires their grads to work from home right out of the program.

Nice list. I would not recommend working for Transcribe Team. The work available with them is very sporadic. They say that they pay up to $0.65 per audio minute. I never made more than $0.50 an audio minute when I worked for them. They blocked me from logging into their site without even sending an email to let me know why. They did allow me to login again once I contacted them. I’ve read in different forums though from transcribers who were blocked from Transcribe Team from logging into the worker interface without giving a reason why.

Pretty much every serious blogger and online entrepreneur I know has at least one virtual assistant. Think of a VA like an administrative assistant at a regular office building, except they are working remotely. Duties can include practically any administrative task you can think of – including handling emails, bookkeeping, completing sales, customer service, editing websites, and much more. Specializations in areas like social media management or online ad management is another option.
